DETAILED INFORMATION

The College of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina provides a premier pharmacy education leveraging the innovative inter-professional learning opportunities offered at South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health center with a full range of programs in the biomedical sciences.
The MUSC College of Pharmacy unites nationally-recognized faculty and high-achieving students in an environment defined by the highest caliber education, research and patient care. The College offers four degree programs – PharmD, PhD, PharmD/PhD in conjunction with the College of Graduate Studies, and, in conjunction with The Citadel, PharmD/MBA – and is home to one of the oldest and largest residency programs in the country.
The MUSC College of Pharmacy, located in beautiful and historic Charleston, S.C., has 40 full-time faculty members in two departments (clinical pharmacy and drug discovery) and accepts 80 students per class.
Clinical pharmacy education at an academic health center offers unique learning opportunities in a curriculum that emphasizes practice experience along with active learning and simulation. Faculty are nationally-recognized both as clinicians and teachers. The clinical education program promotes critical thinking skills and prepares practitioners for contemporary and future practice roles.
Research at the medical university is changing the face of healthcare. The College has three research centers with three renowned endowed chairs and is part of the S.C. Center for Therapeutic Discovery, which has a robust portfolio of drug discovery projects. The research program focuses on disease mechanisms, drug action and toxicity, and the design and development of new pharmaceutical agents.
MUSC pharmacy students have outcomes comparable to Top 10 pharmacy schools, typically exceeding the national average in graduating student satisfaction, NAPLEX and MPJE scores, residency placement and post-graduation employment.
For more than 130 years, the pharmacy program at MUSC has prepared students to be leaders in the profession. A large network of alumni contribute to both a world-wide experiential education program with more than 900 preceptors and a personal student mentor program.
