DETAILED INFORMATION

A TRADITION OF INNOVATION AND DISCOVERY – Since 1886, the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) has been a national leader in education and research in both Pharmacy Practice and the Pharmaceutical Sciences and is ranked #1 in New York State and is amongst the top 25 schools in the country per US News and World Report. The UB SPPS boasts one of the most competitive research programs in the country with internationally renowned faculty members obtaining sustained high level federal funding as well as industry and private support.
THE UB EXPERIENCE – The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is located on the University’s South Campus where students enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, “smart” classrooms, and centers for research that are among the finest in the world, all in a safe, close-knit setting. Thanks to a 10-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, SPPS students work side-by-side with faculty who have established a reputation for excellence in scholarship, teaching, clinical activities, and research. It’s all part of an educational environment based on community and teamwork, with students, alumni, and faculty working together to create an atmosphere of active collaboration, professional development, and mentorship.
A COMMITMENT TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE – UB’s innovative curriculum is experiential, taking the lessons of the classroom and laboratory into real-world settings, where students develop crucial patient care and leadership skills and make tangible contributions to their field. Students immerse themselves in variety of clinical training settings, including hospitals, long term care (LTC), health maintenance organizations (HMOs), federal health agencies, hospice care, community health centers as well as a growing list of international training sites. Whether it’s required study in the emerging field of pharmacogenomics or access to the university’s collaborative Global Health Equity Center, UB SPPS students’ training and expertise gives them a strong advantage as they enter the competitive, multi-cultural workforce.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES – UB sits at the nexus of a groundbreaking life sciences and bioinformatics research evidenced by these newly constructed facilities: The New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences as well the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Our faculty are dedicated to pharmacotherapy research in areas such as infectious disease, transplantation, oncology, neurology, geriatrics, cardiovascular, medical imaging, critical care, therapeutic drug-drug interactions, development of biological therapies and medication adherence. Our top 20 AACP ranking for extramural funding is another strong indicator of our ability to create innovative scholarly experiences for our students.
Working in top-flight research SPPS centers such as the Center of Excellence in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Center for Protein Therapeutics, Center for Health Outcomes Pharmacoinformatics and Epidemiology as well as our Global Health Initiative Center allows UB’s renowned researchers to work across disciplines furthering new research to improve people’s lives.
A WORLD OF ACADEMIC OPTIONS – The University at Buffalo offers students a wide range of professional programs and opportunities for exciting interdisciplinary study including dual/collaborative PharmD/MBA, PharmD/JD, PharmD/PhD, PharmD/MS, and PharmD/MPH combinations. More and more students are pursuing post-graduate training to distinguish themselves. Our PharmD innovative curriculum, special programs, and faculty advisors give our students an advantage for attaining postgraduate residency fellowship opportunities.
SCHOLARSHIPS – We offer scholarships for incoming P1’s who are non-New York State residents to help offset the cost of out-of-state tuition. These scholarships are one-time awards. After the first year, students may obtain residency and qualify for in-state tuition. Other available admissions-based scholarships are available and decisions are made and conveyed during the admission process. Note: these scholarships are not available to international students. Scholarship opportunities continue to be available throughout the program thanks to the generosity of alumni, friends, and various organizations/corporations.
