Eligibility criteria

  • United States or Canadian Resident; AND
  • Licensed to practice; AND
  • Master’s or higher in related health science with 2,000 hours of demonstrated clinical experience in the management of patients with lipid or other related disorders. (~1 year); OR
  • Bachelor’s in related health science with 3,000 hours of demonstrated clinical experience in the management of patients with lipid or other related disorders. (~1.5 years); AND
  • Minimum of 200 points is required to successfully credential for certification.
    • Certification in a recognized board (e.g., Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties [worth 50 points]) or advanced licensure recognized by the state OR other appropriate certificate programs (worth 10-50 points)
    • Relevant accredited postgraduate training of at least 1 year (if not accounted for in basic requirements) OR higher education level (Post Baccalaureate, PharmD)
    • Relevant accredited postgraduate training of at least 1 year (if not accounted for in basic requirements) OR higher education level (Post Baccalaureate, PharmD)
    • Clinical research and/or scholarly publications in the management of lipid disorders
    • Balance of points not obtained in 1-4, must be earned through lipid focused continuing education credit obtained within the previous five calendar years.

Recertification requirements

  • Hold a current, active license to practice (if applicable) in the United States or Canada.
  • Hold a current CLS certification through the ACCL.
  • Demonstrate completion of at least 1,000 practice hours in the five years prior to expiration of certification.

AND

  • Either Pathway 1 or Pathway 2.
    • Pathway 1: Lipid-Focused Continuing Education
      • Demonstrate 75 hours of lipid-focused continuing education, completed in the five years prior to expiration of certification.
    • Pathway 2: Examination
      • Pass the current CLS exam by December 31 of renewal year.
  • Any CLS wishing to renew their certification must demonstrate completion of at least 1,000 practice hours in the five years prior to expiration of certification.
