Ideally situated in Irvine, our southern California location provides easy access to beautiful beaches, snow-covered mountains, beautiful deserts, Disneyland, and world-class entertainment and sports venues that are second to none. Our personalized education attracts students from different backgrounds and countries from all over the world. Our diverse student body combined with our small classes make it possible for you to connect across borders and backgrounds, broadening your experience to different cultures and ways of viewing the world.
Chapman University School of Pharmacy (CUSP) engages student pharmacists in science-based, personalized, interdisciplinary education and training and helps students focus on the lifelong pursuit of answers to the grand challenges in human health around the world and their role in compassionate delivery of those solutions, starting with engagement in the local Orange County community. Our focus will be on preparing students well to provide flawless medication management services as part of a health care team in various health care settings and to prepare those who might wish to head toward practice and work within the pharmaceutical industry or other parts of the health care research and delivery industry.
CUSP will not only utilize the innovative year-round, 3-year accelerated program, but also will provide integrated courses so that the pharmaceutical science, clinical science, and social and behavioral science are linked cohesively, allowing students to see how they all fit together.
CUSP is also unique in that we utilize a computerized electronic exam process, where the students take an exam every three weeks that includes the content from all of their courses. The exam is around 3 hours in length, and encourages students to study every day, since cramming for exams is not possible.
CUSP’s unique program uses the innovative and student-centered method of instruction called flipped-classroom andragogy. In place of the more traditional, lecture-based model, many classes will devote time for team-based and active learning exercises. To succeed at CUSP, students will be required to have viewed assigned video, audio and other exercises or readings before coming to class. Quizzes may be given at the beginning of class to allow students to demonstrate the knowledge gained from pre-class preparation, and allow faculty to tailor the discussion and active learning exercises to best meet student needs.
CUSP offers multiple opporunity for leadership and community service activities through the following student organizations: APhA-ASP/CPhA, CSHP/ASHP, Hispanic Pharmacists Association, Vietnamese Pharmacy Student Association, Middle Eastern Pharmacists Association, Korean American Pharmacy Student Association, Chinese-American Pharmacy Student Association, ISPOR-CU, ACCP, AMCP, AAPS, Phi Delta Chi Fraternity, and Kappa Psi Fraternity.
And CUSP offers multiple research opportunities in a wide variety of areas, including Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Social and Administrative Pharmacy, and Clinical Pharmacy. Students can get involved in research via the CAPSTONE research project, through elective courses, and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences.
As an added benefit of attending CUSP, students will receive a MacBook, and electronic access to most textbooks free of charge.
CUSP has received accreditation for the Doctor of Pharmacy program by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and Full Accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
We are also the first school in California to require the PCAT exam for admission. Given the competitive environment for admission to pharmacy schools, this additional metric will further distinguish our students among their peers at other schools. Preferred applicants would have a composite PCAT score of 50th percentile or higher and a pre-req GPA of 3.0 or higher. A composite PCAT score of 70th percentile or higher also helps students who may have a less competitive GPA.
CUSP will confer the professional degree, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), upon those who successfully complete the didactic & experiential educational components, as well as the professionalism components of the program. Responsibility for the use of medication and the health outcomes associated with such use are at the core of the pharmacist’s role in advancing health.
