The South University School of Pharmacy in Columbia, South Carolina, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), is one of the few institutions nationwide to offer an innovative and accelerated program of study that allows students to obtain the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in three calendar years. This three-year program allows students to launch their careers earlier than students attending a traditional four-year program. Additionally, during their last year, students participate in clinical rotations at arranged sites throughout the United States. This affords students an opportunity to develop a deeper knowledge of the specific needs and requirements of pharmacy practice.
The School of Pharmacy program is delivered over 12 quarters of study that can be characterized by three distinct areas of focus. The first provides the scientific foundation of the practice of pharmacy with coursework focusing on the basic, biological and pharmaceutical sciences with introductory clinical aspects. The second area of focus begins when student pharmacists are exposed to the profession in two Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences; one in a Community practice setting and a second in an Institutional Practice Setting. The curriculum at this stage provides the clinical, professional and administrative underpinnings required for practice of the profession. The final quarters are utilized to provide the foundational clinical experiences that expose the student pharmacists to seven Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences in a wide variety of required and elective rotations arranged at sites across the United States.
The Doctor of Pharmacy program offered through the School of Pharmacy is available at one of two South University campuses located in Columbia, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.
