The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences plans to build on a long tradition of educational excellence at a great value at Binghamton University. Binghamton is proud to be ranked among the elite public universities in the nation for challenging students academically, not financially. The School will provide a quality and demanding education to aspiring pharmacists at a low in-state tuition or scholarship-supported out-of-state tuition. The quality of the School is exemplified in small class sizes, excellent faculty, research opportunities, and state of the art facilities.
Class Size – The projected student-to-faculty ratio will be 10-to-1 or less, with class sizes of 85-90. There will be a faculty-student mentoring program, allowing for a rich professional experience. Students will have the opportunity to develop relationships with professors and preceptors, promoting lifelong mentors and professional contacts.
Excellent Faculty – Students will learn contemporary pharmacy skills through one-on-one interactions with dedicated faculty, who will be active in research and clinical practice. The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has compiled some of the best and most experienced faculty members in the fields of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Some of their areas of expertise include but are not limited to, community practice, geriatrics, drug development and delivery, pharmacology, genomics, epidemiology, pharmaco-economics, ambulatory care, critical care, global health, and much more. Our current faculty have compiled more than a century’s worth of academic and research experience in the field of pharmacy and health sciences. The school looks to continue to add leaders to the academy and create one of the strongest pharmacy schools in the state of New York and the country.
Research Opportunities – Through a formal research track and a capstone experience built into the curriculum, students will have the opportunity to work with leading scholars/researchers in pharmacy practice, health outcomes, and pharmaceutical science. The school aims to become a leader in cutting-edge research, specializing in drug development and delivery, pharmacology, and genomics. Research will improve clinical decision-making, thereby impacting both the quality and cost of healthcare, while another focus will be on pharmaceutical products and services with an eye on improving patient outcomes, especially in the rural setting.
State of the Art Facilities – Binghamton University School of Pharmacy will be part of the new Health Science campus in Johnson City. The four story, 85,000 square foot facility will have two floors devoted to a high quality pharmacy education program and two floors devoted to cutting edge contemporary, multidisciplinary research. The new state of the art simulation lab will provide students with the resources to work interprofessionally with a wide variety of health professionals to develop industry leading clinical skills.
The new school aims to educate graduates to truly understand the value of evidence-based, patient-centered pharmaceutical care and innovative research. We will embrace interprofessional education, which allows students to learn about, from, and with other healthcare professionals in the classroom and through practice experiences. Our graduates will be prepared to serve their communities in socially responsible ways to improve health and well-being and become leading professionals in pharmacy research and clinical practice.
