DETAILED INFORMATION

Responding to the rising need for pharmacists nationally, and particularly in the South, Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM) established a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional degree program in 2010.
Supported by PCOM’s century-old tradition of training osteopathic physicians and other health practitioners, the School of Pharmacy provides a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum delivered by accomplished educators, practitioners, and pharmaceutical scientists.
The School of Pharmacy is a student-centered program. Our faculty is committed to providing all of the necessary resources to support students both academically and personally, and each student is assigned a faculty advisor. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education and practice skills that will prepare them as generalist pharmacists capable of practicing in various healthcare environments. In keeping with the School’s mission to support discovery and translational research, our faculty is engaged in research in basic, clinical and administrative sciences, providing additional opportunities for student participation. Our School is committed to improving the success of each and every student.
As part of this professionally-oriented education, students work in state-of-the-art classrooms and teaching laboratories including a sterile products lab, compounding lab, and simulated pharmacy practice lab. Other advanced resources include a Pyxis automated dispensing machine and laminar flow hoods to prepare sterile products using aseptic techniques such as intravenous solutions. Clinical learning and assessment laboratories utilizing simulated patients and a cadaver anatomy lab are other resources offered by the program.
The PCOM School of Pharmacy prepares entry-level generalist pharmacists for careers with the right combination of skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values to develop and grow in this rapidly evolving profession.
