DETAILED INFORMATION

We are…Marshall.

At the Marshall University School of Pharmacy, we do things a bit differently.
Forget the traditional classroom. At Marshall, you won’t see stadium seating or hear boring lectures. Health care is team-based, so why shouldn’t the classroom be? At Marshall, it is. Active Learning is the focus of Marshall’s curriculum. We chose to design our innovative spaces to best suit your unique learning style: small, intimate spaces with only 80 students per class. Marshall is proudly one of the first three exclusively flipped classroom pharmacy schools in America.

As part of active learning, Marshall has instituted the flipped classroom. The flipped classroom places special emphasis on the social, hands-on aspect of learning. Our outstanding faculty encourage interactive teaching in these classrooms that seat students at round tables to incite discussion, team problem solving, and peer learning. Lectures are provided in advance to make the classroom a place for interactivity, knowledge development and concept emphasis with the support of peers and professors. Gone are the days in which collaboration is discouraged. At Marshall, peer learning is not only encouraged, but expected. The result? Students have been shown to earn higher grades and are 50 percent more likely to succeed than in traditional classrooms.
Simulation before practice. State-of-the-art simulation areas allow you to practice skills and daily pharmacy activities before jumping into real-world situations. Mock environments include a hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, compounding lab, and eight patient counseling offices. Applying information hands-on emphasizes memory and recollection.
Early practice experiences are a cornerstone of Marshall’s program. There’s no waiting until your third year for practice experience. Huntington’s unique tri-state area gives Marshall students the opportunity to be certified and giving immunizations within the first year and have a student license in three states (West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio).
Academic partnerships provide students an opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree while pursuing their Pharm.D., saving time and money. Additionally, dual degree programs allow students to explore even more career options beyond graduation.
