DETAILED INFORMATION

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy has the only three year concentrated Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program in the state of Maryland. The School of Pharmacy is a part of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, which also includes Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, and Rehabilitation Services programs. The School of Pharmacy at UMES was founded in 2008 and admitted its inaugural class in the fall of 2010. The Pharm.D. program seeks to provide students with a strong foundation in the pharmaceutical, social/administrative and clinical sciences. In order to do so, emphasis is placed on high quality patient-centered care and medication therapy management (MTM), the development of skills for lifelong learning and opportunities for multi-cultural development. In addition, the faculty, through their teaching, mentoring and scholarship, work to maximize student potential and to contribute to the advancement of the profession by preparing highly trained, articulate, and caring pharmacists. To help foster an enriching educational experience to each individual student, the School of Pharmacy offers small class sizes, with a student-faculty ratio of approximately 6:1. For these students, the School of Pharmacy is dedicated to ensuring an intellectually challenging and enriching educational experience.

UMES was founded in 1886 and is the state of Maryland’s historically black land-grant institution. The university is a member of the University System of Maryland, which consists of 12 institutions. UMES provides students of all races with access to a holistic learning environment that fosters multicultural diversity, academic success, and intellectual and social growth. UMES is a student-centered, doctoral research degree-granting university known for its nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, applied research, and highly valued graduates. UMES is approved by the state of Maryland and is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA).
