DETAILED INFORMATION

The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy is located in Iowa City, a cosmopolitan community of 60,000 and home to the ‘Hawkeyes’. The College of Pharmacy is located west of the scenic Iowa River, and is part of a larger health sciences complex, including the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing and public health. Iowa City is approximately a four and one half hour drive from Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Kansas City. The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy has a long tradition of excellence and leadership in pharmacy education, pharmacy practice and biomedical research. Our program includes a continuously evolving curriculum oriented to student learning and problem solving in order to better prepare students for a changing profession.

We asked our students why they chose Iowa. Their reasons include the following:
National stature
Exceptional results on national boards
Pharmacy is a small college with high faculty-student ratio
The reputation of the faculty is exceptional
Iowa City is a smaller city with big-city advantages
Hands on experience at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
Ranked well nationally
Excellent staff
Active student organizations
State of the art technology
The multitude of career opportunities
Community service through Individual Practice Experiences
Camaraderie of classmates
Our many student organizations offer students several ways to become involved in the profession locally, statewide and nationally. Pharmacy students attend national conferences, serve on active committees with faculty, educate children and adults, assist with immunizations and organize social events.

The Pharmacy Practice lab is a technologically advanced licensed pharmacy that provides real and simulated practice experiences. The Banker Center Student Activity Center provides quiet individual and small group study environments and houses the offices of student organizations. Other facilities in the college include the Iowa Drug Information Service, a computerized drug information database relative to the clinical use of drugs, and University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals, a Food and Drug Administration-registered pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
