DETAILED INFORMATION

The Medication Use Safety Pharmacy Residency is a one year specialized postgraduate training program at UMass Memorial Medical Center. A resident completing the program will be well positioned to assume a medication safety leadership role in health system pharmacy. The resident will gain experience with medication occurrence and adverse drug event reporting and assessment, Joint Commission medication management standard scoring, and exposure to technology including computerized provider order entry, smart infusion pumps, pharmacy robotics, and point of care barcoding. The resident will learn to analyze processes, identify failure modes and implement risk reduction strategies, apply methods to foster a culture of safety, develop effective communication skills, and appreciate how human factors impact the safety of patient care.
