DETAILED INFORMATION

Our facility’s progressive PGY-1 residency program prepares residents to obtain a position as a clinical pharmacy specialist, to begin a career in academia, or to continue residency training as a PGY-2 resident in a focused area of practice. Residents work closely under the scopes of practice and prescriptive authority of their preceptors to provide direct patient care to our veterans. As a tertiary care medical center, electives in most medical specialties are available. A psychiatry-focused track is available for one PGY-1 resident per year. Residents have the option to participate in the Teaching & Learning certificate program at VCU/MCV School of Pharmacy. Benefits include annual leave, sick leave, and a “dual appointment.” The dual appointment allows licensed residents to be paid pharmacist hourly wages when staffing on weekends.
